It’s not West Virginia, but New Hampshire that woke up my mountain mama joy. The first corner I turned to see a mountain rising to the sky took away my breath. I wish I could have taken a photo. The mountainside was covered in trees of every shade of green. There was one cloud in the perfectly bright blue sky, and in the field to my left were about a dozen cows standing chest high in a small pond of water to cool off on this day that must have hit 90. I couldn’t help but sing, “Country roads take me home to the place I belong…” I have 85 more miles to go tomorrow to return to the farm, but already my cell phone can’t get a signal and even my host’s wifi in the woods is very spotty. Yep, this is the same New Hampshire I left 209 days ago.
