Day 221: Rain in the bedroom, more on the way

Today I traveled to Alburg, VT. It pretty much poured the entire way. I have screens taped into four windows that are a pain to take down and put up, so I’ve been leaving them up when the bus was parked as well as being driven. The three in the living area have never let in more than a couple of drops. The fourth one is at the head of my bed. I have driven with that taped in, but not in the rain. To my surprise, enough water came in the top of that window to soak the curtain until it was dripping onto the pillows pushed up next to it, soaking them, too. They are now spread around the bus to dry out.

I’m a mile from Canada as the crow flies, and a mile from New York. Lake Champlain is so much bigger than I imagined. I spent some time by the shore, splashing water on myself because there was no safe way to walk out more than a few feet, and even the slippery rocks sticking up every which way were treacherous. Then came plant life. I wish I had thought to bring a float of some kind … like a body board I remember seeing in the basement that probably would have fit under the foot of my mattress. Seems there’s always a specular sunset, except when I’m here.

I hear a storm coming in. I can see the lightening and feel the wind. I think I better take down that screen in the bedroom and close the window … just in case. And then I’ll settle in to start planning my next trip with a sister Witch on Wheels at the end of the month, hopefully to south eastern NH. If you know of waterfront parking in that area, please let me know.
