DAY 342: La Befana

I was on Day 66 of this odyssey that I celebrated la Befana this time last year. When I put out honey and figs for Italy’s oldest and most celebrated legend – a broom-flying witch – little did I know instead of sweets or gifts I was about to get a very expensive transmission. Tonight when I put out my shoes along with my offering, I will gladly forego candy for two Democratic U.S. senators.

That my left knee is aching much more than it did yesterday, coupled with my bus backed up to be in full sun in preparation for roof painting, turned out to be a gift. It is what kept me from ordering a pizza and walking to the gate to get it. Rather, I ate what was left in my larder: a grapefruit, a serving of grass-fed ground beef, a small cabbage, almond butter, a protein bar, broccoli, zucchini noodles, grated cheese, butter, macadamia nut milk, and sugar-free pudding. Tomorrow my order is being picked up at Walmart and my box of MisFits organic veggies arrives. I have three recipes lined up that will wipe out the memory of today’s meals.
