DAY 425: Reunion

Today was 155 mile drive over some very bumpy roads. For long stretches there were no other cars, just lots and lots of wisteria growing wild in forests and yards, even taking over long-abandoned homes. The goal was to make it to Florence, SC to see my dear friend Samantha for an evening of catching up. Again, she spoiled me with gifts and dinner. Then, she helped me straighten out my bus because the rear left tire was touching the yellow line at the TA stop and the driver in the trailer that parked next to me said if I didn’t move, he would hit me when he pulled out. He’s twice as big. I moved. Somehow we forgot to take selfies.

Tonight is much quieter than last night. And the moon is out. It’s cold enough that I won’t be sleeping on top of the covers with the fan on high. The windows are actually going to get closed. Pye is already sleeping and I will be soon. I find on days I drive, I crash before midnight instead of getting a second wind. Figuring out my next stop will have to wait for the morning.

One hoot was passing through Dorchester, SC, considering I live in Dorchester, NH. Nothing alike. We don’t have a fire department and they don’t have mountains.

Pye is doing well. While he does not like the driving part, he does enjoy walking all over the counter tops that have nothing on them, and checking out the new noises and smells. He’s also taken to sleeping on the bottom step, and tries to go there when we’re on the road, but I fear he’ll get sick on diesel fumes and road smells, so I chase him back to the closet until I can figure out a way he might sit up front and look out the window without getting buffeted by bumps and turns.
