DAY 472: Joy in the Journey

I bought this quilted message at the one tag sale I stopped at today, while I was lost somewhere in Massachusetts. It was a good reminder to enjoy today’s adventure that began when I plugged in the street name and house number of the sister who is sheltering me. Up popped the address and a choice of routes. I picked the one that looked like it avoided Worchester. It did, all right, because I wasn’t going to East Windsor, CT, I was going to Hampden, MA. What are the odds there would be two Scantic Roads just 20 miles apart? Thankfully both were in the same general direction and I didn’t end up on the Cape.

This journey began Thursday when I drove a borrowed car to New Hampshire to have the hip surgeon’s team at Dartmouth-Hitchcock proclaim that, yes, I need mine replaced. It’s scheduled for early July – if I don’t change my mind or run into obstacles. I’m trying to wrap my brain around that. I have come to learn that 98% of the time, what I most resist is what I most need to do, and I’ve been resisting the idea of surgery.

I stayed at the farm that night, catching up with Monica, meeting her new pets, and sorting through months of mail. I had not been overly anxious to return north this season, but that changed as soon as I was among the mountains and felt them hold me, and driveway welcome me home.

Friday I drove to Nashua and met with friends, enjoyed a night in a hotel, and then the meandering drive back to the bus today. As much as I want to go exploring tomorrow, I have two books to read and review for Pagan Pages.
