DAY 932: Counting Down to Launch

I am parked along the Max Brewer Memorial Parkway, opposite Parrish Park where the road I wanted to park on is closed. I got here about 9:30am and by noon it was beginning to look like an RV sales lot. It’s not ocean, but it’s beautiful with the Indian River Lagoon on both sides of me and a constant breeze blowing through the bus. I’ve been leaving the door open lately when there are no bugs (thanks to the breezes) with a cat barrier in place and Pye only jumped over it once.

So … I am at this spot waiting for the launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station scheduled to deliver the second generation of high-speed low earth orbit internet satellites into space. If it doesn’t rain.

Other than washing the floor and rearranging food in the fridge to keep it from falling out after a drive, I am chilling. Reading. Journaling. Watching the sun break into diamonds on the water. Planning to nap, even though midnight is not late for me, and I’ve been known to still be up at 4am, which is about when the launch window closes.

Yesterday I made my way up A1A, stopping at at least five or six beaches. None of them even came close to Avalon. I spent the night at Lowe’s. Tomorrow I think I’ll go back to the string of beaches I marked on the map and see if I can find one where the ocean is visible from the parking lot.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
