April 23: Three's Company (Nomad Version)
After leaving the open field, I must have traveled 15 miles on dirt, gravel, or crushed pavement on the way to our next adventure – a 1,350-acre cattle ranch. Our arrival was only possible because our very accommodating Harvest Host drove down to the main road to meet us.
Brenda and I were excited to learn Nelson had left Texas and would hook up with us at the farm. We hadn't seen him since he left The Home Depot parking lot. The way energy flows when we're together is rare and special. We had dinner as Black Angus cows (as identified by my uncle who had them on his farm) mooed and bellowed on the other side of the fence. The setting sun put on a colorful show and hours later, stars were magnificent.
Last night we stayed at a winery that would be a perfect destination for a wedding or family reunion. Getting there I again drove on some difficult roads. To the point my front end was feeling loose. We traveled on to Muskogee, our next planned stop, and I was able to have a diesel repair facility change my oil, inspect all systems, lube everything, and tell me to get thyself to a front end specialist. And you know all top the best front end specialists schedule work weeks out. Thankfully, one of the recommendations was in the general direction of where we are going and I scored an appointment for Tuesday at 1. I am limiting my driving, although I am sure I am in no danger, in part to catch up on Pagan Pages reviews and columns, and think up what I want to do on the dark moon. And while this is going on, Brenda and Nelson are searching for what will be her next home ... on wheels.
As an aside, when people say, "Oh, so you're homeless," nomads come back with, "No, we're houseless. This is our home." Not everyone gets it.
When we leave Muskogee, we're going to the Cherokee Cultural and Welcome Center where Brenda can maybe find the names of long ago ancestors. After that it's to a diner on Route 66, my bus repairs, and then wherever we decide to go next.
With everything going so smoothly - with the exception of roads - I have been a bit out of sorts. Part of it is I am again detoxing from carbs, but talking to my daughter today, I realized another reason is because I've always been back to Connecticut by May, which is only a week away.
