April 7: Back to the Beach

After six nights on the beach, I spent six nights in the back of The Home Depot parking lot with my friends Brenda and Nelson. Bad weather kept us off the beach until today. Brenda and I arrived this afternoon after shopping and showering. Nelson is at another beach, on his way to contracted work.

Karmalita gave me a few moments of panic when my parking brake light came on with flashing red and a beeping (without my ever having touched the lever) and the check engine light also came on with a message to service my vehicle. A mechanic scanned the codes and found nothing other than my ABS system and a heating coil which I already knew were not working and I could live without. So, I will keep driving and watch my gauges as we head north through Galveston Island, to Crystal Beach for a couple of days.

Mapping a route north, and it seems like Texas goes on forever. Brenda and I will be travel partners for however long we are meant to be travel partners. She is doing the cooking and I am teaching her tarot and an intro to the Craft. We both need to rediscover play and fun, so here's hoping we can do together what neither of us has excelled at on our own.

Feeding the birds, walking the beach, reading tarot cards, and washing  down pizza with tequila-infused Fresca was also fun.

I have a bucket I rescued from the sand filled with "angle wing" shells and some wildflowers on the altar. There are potstickers in my stomach, and the sheepskin on my hammock – the old one in dire need of washing – because I am 95% sure I will be giving away the new one. It just doesn't hang right from my brackets, even knotting the ends to bring it higher, so I find it extra difficult to get up and out of it.

I am so enjoying the moon shadows and the sound of the waves. I can't seem to get enough.
