Day 44: My Church
Day 44: My Church
I’ve spent almost a month in South Carolina. I have driven 40-mile stretches of road with nothing on them but cotton fields, farm houses, trailers and abandoned buildings.. No Dunkin’ Donuts. No gas stations. No restaurants. What there have been, though, are churches. Lots and lots of churches. Some names from the map in this area include Evangelistic Temple Way of the Cross Church, Divine Faith Church, Saint James Santee Episcopal Chapel of Ease, Holy Reform Pentecostal Church and Union African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Today’s drive took me to a campground in the Francis Marion National Forest. The trees give way to a view of the Intracoastal Waterway. This is my church. It has no doors, no ceiling, no stained glass windows. And I found my pew.
