Day 55: Linda Meets Linda
For today’s title to make sense, you need to know that legally my name is Linda; in high school, I switched to using Lynn. My skoolie is next to a site with a camper and a car that sometimes comes and goes. Turns out this is Linda who lives in that camper. She’s a year-round resident. I learned that when I randomly chose a seat in the room where campers came together to share a potluck Christmas mid-day meal. She and I are the only singles here. While we are quite different when it comes to some things, it turns out we’ve had many of the same experiences and enjoy many of the same things including putting purple in our hair. We parted after making plans to go see the light display on Jekyll Island (that we agreed was underwhelming). She can’t drive at night, so she packed a picnic and drove us there. I paid the toll to get on the island, drove us around and then back to camp. She suggested I consider staying here for the season or longer. I can see myself spending some time here on my way back north because it is beautiful and because the peepers sing me to sleep every night.
As I write this, my fairy lights are all red and the candle on my Yule altar is glowing. The heater is blowing directly on me and I’m about to finish watching a very bad Christmas movie on Netflix because another holiday tradition bit the dust. I did not bring the “Bell, Book and Candle” DVD with me because I would have also had to bring the external drive to play it. And that would have made me feel like I should bring more than just one DVD if it was so important to find space for the drive in its box. That’s when I stopped myself.
Thank you for coming along on my adventure. May your evening be cozy and bright.
