DAY 378: More Angels
Today is my last at this wonderful nest in the woods of Florida. There’s something about skoolie people … they are so nice. Every one of them. I love the outdoor shower in the structure that will soon have a flush toilet as well. There’s a pool that was too cold to use, and a wonderful group of small gardens being planted by one of the van dwellers here. There are hints that spring is coming.
Today I was treated to lunch by a sister’s sister, Mary, and her boyfriend, Jim. In a long and winding conversation, I learned they live in this town during the winter and two hours north of me in New Hampshire in the summer. And in New Hampshire, he has a school bus almost like mine, and used to have a CDL. After lunch he inspected my bus with much care, concerned about her and me. To my embarrassment, I was in need of oil and transmission fluid. He marked levels on my coolant cylinder and checked my steering wheel and other things … for which I am grateful. Oil I had, but it was Brian, who arrived last night and whom I hadn’t met, who gave me transmission fluid, and who will be sure I get all the right stuff at the car parts store tomorrow. Another angel.
Tomorrow, we form a caravan to meet up with the one coming down from Jesup. Everyone here is willing to drive my speed. See, I told you … nice! Then we become more like a convoy for the last six miles to the camp. I’ve never been in a convoy before! The private camp will be populated with more than 130 homes on wheels. I think most will be skoolies. There I will be boondocking for eight nights – which will be a new world record for me. I got my solar just in time! I am more or less planning to fall off the grid and get away from the rest of the world for large blocks of time. Soul time.
