DAY 878: “My Avalon”

I know I said my next post would be about Cassadage but that was before I found Avalon State Park in Vero Beach, Florida. There is a song I have loved by Laura Powers and I just can’t get it out of my head.

“There’s a place in-between my thoughts and my dreams that touches me deeply. … Where the sky meets the ocean through the mist there, just beyond. It’s the haven I long for. My Avalon.”

For those who want to sing along, here are the lyrics, here’s a link to the song and lyrics.

This has been my view. I sat and watched the ocean for hours. I got the best spot in the lot and I am claiming it as mine for at least a month. I can think of nothing better than coming here and paying $2 a day, then driving half an hour or so to park for the night, then coming back. Day after day.

The meditation I did here was so powerful. I could feel each of the directions. I also had a minor brain burst, as I reached down and picked up a shell, and thanked the ocean for the gift. At that moment, I remembered my mom’s favorite book was “Gift from the Sea” by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. I wish I remember which shell it was. Then I thought about how along with shells, my dad was one of mom’s gifts from the sea. He was a sailor and had been out in the ocean.

With that, I have watched the cloud cover get thicker. It will be time to shut off the power soon.

Blessings on this longest night of the year.
