DAY 716 (Monday): Social Butterfly

It’s nearly the witching hour, which I consider to be 3am, and I can’t sleep. The full moon in Scorpio has me emotionally overloaded and dizzy from awakenings. I have been working with a set of Womansrunes for a review I am doing for PaganPages.org. This post is a break from that.

On the road, I am alone for long periods of time. Now that I’m stationary, I find myself in community more often. The last three nights, for instance. Saturday there was a trip to the beach where we didn’t see the moon rise, but rather got rained on during a short ritual. Sunday night it was back to The Pub with Kim, the sister hosting me, to watch the Rangers complete their three-game comeback and win their first round of hockey playoffs. At one time, it was only the bartender, Logan, and three of us in the place, and then the bar filled up and things got rowdy. Tonight it was Kim’s birthday party where the conversations were so rich, we never realized how quickly the time passed. Most impressive was getting to hold a piece of a meteorite that two weeks ago was in space. Scientists estimated was a foot wide, traveling 55,000 mph, crashing into the Cranfield area of Mississippi. Roberto, who is gaining notoriety in meteorite circles, found it and several other pieces. This one will be going to auction at Sotheby’s (Trivia: It’s the oldest company listed on the New York Stock Exchange.) where he expects it to sell for $60,000. The last time this little groups was together, he passed around a slice of a moon rock as the moon shown above us.
