DAY 1033: Karmalita
So … 37 days ago, the life plan that was unfolding for me shattered. Sometimes it feels like that was last week, but it was a lifetime ago. My funk has been slowly fading because I of the support I have been blessed with from source, family, friends, and unexpected places such as a song played at The Pub. The signs I’ve been getting have been crazy wild. Everything from the Womanrunes I’ve pulled to conversations to Tic Tok videos have been guiding me to a shortie and a new home state. (A shortie is a small skoolie.)
Just over two years ago, met Barbara (This is Barbara.) I absolutely fell in love with her bus (pictured). I had never seen one like it nor have I since, but before the end of the year I will be driving something similar. Her name will be Karmalita. My host, Kim, named her.
Karmalita will be my second skoolie. My first one, Karma, has eight windows; Karmalita will have five. I have a hot water heater, electrical outlets running down both sides of the bus, a shower, a large clothes closet, a five drawer pantry, and a full size bed that lifts up with storage underneath. She will not have any of that. What she will have is a covered porch, and outdoor kitchen, a small platform named The Tarot Deck, and, if at all possible, a tiny marine wood stove. She will be newer with a/c and heat for the driver, a comfortable seat, better gas milage, and a top speed of more than 42.
Life will be simpler (which will not translate to easier in many instances).
The search has begun for a bus; floor plans, color schemes (purple and red), and decorating styles (Romani vardo wagon and Santa Fe Desert Pueblo) are in the process of making themselves known. I am searching for funky vintage pieces that could work, and preparing myself for another huge purge of stuff – stuff I love, but that will not fit in the life I will be living.
Karma will become my stationary home for when I am not traveling: north in the summer and West (Utah, Montana, and Oregon call to me the loudest).
I will tell you more soon, but right now I must finish writing my columns and reviews for the fast-approaching Pagan Pages deadline, and prepare to travel to my sister’s for the long holiday weekend.
Thank you for following along.
