October 8: Mountain Majesty
I am in love with the mountains in Virginia. Some of them remind me of New Hampshire and Vermont. But the last 70-mile stretch of winding, and climbing and descending around snaking curves took the last of my energy on a drive that lasted five hours (thanks to accidents and road construction backing up traffic).
There is little reception at this farm (first 2 pictures) in Martinsville, VA ... just one bright light shining from the barn and illuminating Karmalita's entire interior. There's a day-old calf I'm hoping to see in the morning after the rooster wakes me up … and I will buy some pasture-raised beef and sausage to take with me even though I don’t have a freezer.
There's pretty much no reception here, but last night I was able to zoom a coven meeting – the first of a series of classes on ancestral healing ... taught by someone who lives in a skoolie with a husband, five children, and cats!! I tried to mail the book for the class to North Carolina, and Amazon was not delivering packages, and so much for two-day delivery to Florida. It was supposed to come in on the 9th but that is now changed to the 17th … so I had to cancel that, too.
Plans to visit Florida and vote are up in the air until I see what damage the hurricane inflicts.
